GERUBOK news | The East Belitung Regency Government has initiated the Clean Friday, Planting Friday, and Sharing Friday movement. This activity is part of the National Mental Revolution Movement (GNRM) by the Ministry of Home Affairs, following the guidance of the Governor of Bangka Belitung Islands.
In the inaugural event on Friday (June 9, 2023), the East Belitung Regency conducted a Clean Friday, where all employees were directed to participate in a communal cleanup of the drainage and sidewalks from Manggar City Park to the Manggar City Dispensary Intersection.
The activity was followed by the Sharing Friday event, accompanied by a Coffee Morning gathering with the East Belitung Regency’s Forkopimda (Regional Leadership Communication Forum) at Taman Kreasi Bukit Samak A2. During this occasion, the Regent and Forkopimda engaged in a casual conversation with village heads and the community, which concluded with the distribution of essential goods.
“The Clean Friday movement has been around for a while, but now there is a directive from the Governor to promote Clean Friday and Planting Friday to support Adipura (Cleanest City Award). This aligns with the Ministry of Home Affairs’ GNRM Clean and Sharing Friday, so we combine them,” explained Yusmawandi, the Head of the Unity of Nation and Politics Agency of East Belitung Regency.
The objective, according to Yusmawandi, is to synchronize the activities and programs of the Central and Provincial Governments and convey the message to the community. It also serves as a non-formal communication platform for the community to express their concerns to the Local Government and Forkopimda.
“So, we are aligning these activities with the Coffee Morning gathering of Forkopimda, where any issues in the field can be understood by everyone and promptly addressed by the Local Government and Forkopimda,” added Yusmawandi.
In the future, Yusmawandi stated that these activities will be conducted regularly in all sub-districts of the East Belitung Regency. The Regent and Forkopimda will visit each sub-district, starting with the Clean Friday, Planting Friday, and concluding with the Sharing Friday.
“It means that not only the sub-districts prepare for these activities but they should already be clean. We will adjust the schedule with the leadership of Forkopimda,” said Yusmawandi.
Focus on Racing Exhaust and Environmental Cleanliness
During the Coffee Morning gathering of Forkopimda at Taman Kreasi Bukit Samak A2 on Friday (June 9, 2023), one of the main topics discussed was the issue of racing exhaust or non-standard exhaust usage, which has been a concern among the community due to the loud noise it produces.
“The issue of racing exhaust disturbs the tranquility of the community. Many young people are unaware of this problem,” said the Regent of East Belitung, Burhanudin.
The East Belitung Regency Government, together with the East Belitung Police, has already appealed to the public to stop using non-standard exhausts. Moreover, many exhausts have been confiscated by the police during traffic operations.
“Many people ignore the government and police’s appeals. That’s why we need to remind them again,” said Burhanudin.
In addition, the Government aims to raise awareness among the public regarding environmental cleanliness, as the spirit of mutual cooperation (gotong-royong) has diminished in society.
“Some individuals still throw garbage from their cars. Such behaviors need to be addressed collectively,” expressed Burhanudin.
The awareness of the community to maintain environmental cleanliness must be nurtured continuously. Keeping the surroundings clean is not solely the responsibility of the government.
“Cleanliness is a shared responsibility. If the area around
our homes is lacking or overgrown, let’s clean it together. We shouldn’t rely solely on sanitation workers. They have limitations, so let’s not burden them with additional work,” emphasized Burhanudin.
